An elderly Westchester man who was reported missing Tuesday night was found dead in a Waukegan bog today, authorities said.
Julian Wendell, 89, appears to have drowned somehow after exiting his vehicle in a marshy area near the intersection of Greenwood and Pershing avenues in Waukegan, Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey said.
Wendell’s vehicle appears to have jumped a curb before coming to a stop near the bog, Yancey said. Wendell was pronounced dead at the scene around noon Wednesday, he said.
Westchester police had issued a report Tuesday night about an elderly man who was missing and had put out a bulletin to search for his car, Westchester Lt. Mike O’Hagan said.
