Mmmmmmm...burgers!

When you get a craving for a good old "burger on the grill," those fancy gourmet varieties just don't satisfy. You won't find pineapple, blue cheese dressing or some exotic smoked bacon at these places, but then their burgers

don't need to be dressed up and hidden behind all those extras.

A local Arlington favorite with great burgers and shoestring fries is Al's Hamburgers [where: 1001 NE Green Oaks Blvd # 103, Arlington, TX? 76006]. Al's has been around since 1957 and their friendly staff still serves a great

old fashioned hamburger with fries and a shake.

A long standing tradition in drive-in establishments is Keller's Drive In [where:6537 E Northwest Hwy, Dallas 75231] in North Dallas, where you pull up, turn on your lights when you are ready to order and the car hop/waitress

comes to you. While you are waiting for that juicy burger, grab a bath towel to cover your lap by draping it from your chin to your knees to be prepared for the mess. This is tater tot country, so it's best to order the tots - with

or without cheese - to accompany the greasy burger.

In Fort Worth there is a rustic gem tucked off on a side street in the Stockyards called Star Caf [where: 111 W Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164]. Star Caf offers a burger cooked on a griddle with a buttered and toasted

bun that beats any extra condiments. If your adventurous and want to try out the house special aptly named The Star Burger, you'll be treated to the addition of cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms, bacon, chili and

jalapeno's topping your fresh burger.

Then there is Kincaid's [where: 4901 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107] in West Fort Worth. Once a meat market, now an award winning hamburger spot. Since 1966, Kincaid's has been serving freshly made ground

chuck hamburgers that you order at the counter and then make friends at the "community" tables while waiting for your burger.

So when you get the hankerin' for a good old fashioned hamburger, here are a few places to check out - just don't forget the napkins - or the bath towel!
